Hands-on machine vision training

Solution concept

Three desktop stations run side by side in the training room: a small conveyor, a smart camera, a light and a display. Participants set up image acquisition, gauging, code reading and presence-check applications themselves; results are sent to the training PLC and verified on the display.

Information delivered

The result of every station is written to the training PLC and shown as OK/NG on the station display; the participant changes the set-up parameters and observes the result again.

Need

Most errors in a vision application arise not in software but in the set-up: wrong light, uncalibrated measurement, late trigger. On a production line these errors are expensive; they need to be experienced and corrected in a safe environment.

Solution approach

Each station covers one topic. The first sets up light selection and calibrated edge gauging, the second code reading and readability, the third presence checking by pattern matching. The part arrives on the conveyor, a photo-sensor triggers, the result is written to the PLC; the participant sees the result on the display and adjusts the settings.

Process steps

  1. 01

    Trigger

Parts arrive on the small conveyors; a photo-sensor triggers the camera at each station.

  2. 02

    Gauging

The first station measures the distance between two edges in a calibrated image.

  3. 03

    Code reading

The second station reads the code on the part and grades its readability.

  4. 04

    Presence

The third station checks by pattern matching whether the component is in place.

  5. 05

    Result

All three results are written to the training PLC and shown on the displays.
