Glaze defect and crack inspection of sanitaryware
The basin on the rotary table is imaged from different angles by a robot-mounted camera and striped panel. Continuity of the reflected pattern and dark surface marks are checked; defect regions are recorded and the item is directed to the repair line.
Defect location and image are written to the item record; the decision goes to the PLC. A basin with a crack or glaze defect is directed to the repair outlet.

Need
Curved glossy glaze reflects surrounding lights like a mirror. Small pinholes, unglazed patches and fine cracks become distinct only at suitable reflection angles.
Solution approach
A camera and striped panel on the robot flange view the basin on the rotary table from different angles. Reflected lines in the glaze are compared with the reference surface; line distortion and dark marks are flagged using regional thresholds.
Process steps
- 01
Positioning
The basin is positioned for inspection on the rotary table.
- 02
First viewpoint
The robot moves the striped panel and camera to the first reflection angle.
- 03
Circumferential scan
As the table rotates, the robot images the surface from a second angle.
- 04
Defect marking
Pattern distortion and the crack are marked on the image.
- 05
Routing
A non-conforming basin is sent to the repair line.
