RED

RED laser edge detectors pick up very low edges in reflected light at high scan rates and are used to count sheets, caps and parts.
The RED series consists of edge detectors that project a laser spot or line onto the object and detect edges from changes in the reflected light. Depending on the type, edges with a height of typically 0.02–0.05 mm are detected; a large detection distance and scan frequencies of up to around 100 kHz make counting on fast lines possible.
Originally developed as copy counters for the printing industry, RED detectors are now used for tasks such as weld seam detection, production of pleated paper for air filters, production of corrugated aluminium pipes and counting stacked caps. Software algorithms allow frequency measurement on rotating parts such as turbochargers and fans, and monitoring of the number of wires in cable stranding machines. The RED-CLS-60-L type detects rising and falling edges separately.
