Flame test on built-in hob burners
Burners are ignited in turn and a top-view camera images each flame ring in dimmed light. Lit ports and flame length are measured per burner; a burner with an incomplete ring or a short flame is flagged.
Port count and flame length per burner are stored with the hob serial number; a hob with an incomplete ring or a short flame is flagged on the stack light and set aside for the adjustment station.

Need
A blue flame is dim and semi-transparent; its ports cannot be resolved in ambient light, and the shiny top adds reflections. Flame length changes with the air setting, and a short flame or a blocked port can only be measured all around the ring in dimmed light with a top-down view.
Solution approach
Ambient light is dimmed and no lighting is used: what is imaged is the flame's own emission. The overhead area-scan camera sees all four burners in one frame; they are spark-ignited in turn and imaged once the flames settle. For each burner a brightness profile is taken around the ring, lit ports are counted and flame length is measured outward from the burner edge. Results are given per burner.
Process steps
- 01
Ignite
The four burners are spark-ignited in turn and the flames settle.
- 02
Acquire
The overhead camera captures the flame rings in low ambient light.
- 03
Flame analysis
Lit ports are counted and flame length is measured on each burner.
- 04
Decide
Burner results are compared with the flame length and ring continuity limits.
