Label inspection and matching on lubricant canisters
Each canister is imaged from the front under bar lights angled from above and below. Label presence is checked and its position measured; the product type given by the cap colour is compared with the label band and printed code. A canister that does not match is removed from the line.
Product and label codes and illustrative position offset appear on the display. A canister with a mismatched label is pushed onto the reject table; the stack light reports the result.

Need
Reflections on a glossy label can hide the printed code and colour band. On similar canisters, a correctly positioned label can still belong to another product type.
Solution approach
Upper and lower bar lights illuminate the label obliquely, directing reflections away from the front camera. Label boundaries and offset are extracted in the same image, and cap colour is compared with the label band and printed code.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
Labelled canisters approach the station at constant speed.
- 02
Trigger
The photo-sensor sees the canister and triggers the camera.
- 03
Acquire
The bar lights strobe; cap and label are captured in one frame.
- 04
Match
Cap colour, label band and printed code are read and the label position is measured.
- 05
Decide
The label type is compared with the product type.
