COAST

COAST hybrid sensors evaluate colour, gloss and surface texture together and tell apart surfaces of the same colour but different structure.
The COAST (COlor And STructure) series combines two sensors in one housing; they are synchronised by a shared LED ring light but otherwise work independently. The colour sensor reports the colour and gloss of the surface, while the structure sensor, with a 512-pixel line detector, examines the surface texture. Both sensors can be connected to a PLC or a PC.
In PARA mode the surface is lit alternately from −30° and +30° to the normal, so forward and backward scattering are evaluated separately. This separates surfaces with very similar colours but slightly different textures, which are hard to tell apart from backward scattering alone. The sensor is used to classify surfaces whose appearance matters, directly on the line.
Key features
- Two sensors in one housing: colour sensor (true-colour detector, CIE 1931) and structure sensor (512-pixel line detector)
- PARA mode: forward and backward scattering at ±30° evaluated separately, four parameter sets in total
- 5 digital outputs, 1 digital input or teach button on the housing
- Separate RS232 interface for each sensor; COAST-Scope and COAST-STRUCT-Scope software
- Scan frequency: up to 35 kHz for the colour sensor in DC mode, up to 100 Hz for the structure sensor
- Black anodised aluminium housing, IP64

GLOSS / RLS
GLOSS and RLS-GD gloss sensors measure surface gloss on the production line, contact-free and continuously, at standard angles such as 20°, 60° and 85°.

GLAST
GLAST sensors inspect surface quality inline on highly reflective surfaces such as stainless steel, aluminium and paint, and on transparent glass and film.

SPECTRO-M
SPECTRO-M mid-infrared (MIR) sensors measure the thickness of thin oil and plastic layers on metal surfaces inline, from 0.1 µm upwards.

SI-JET
SI-JET spray jet control systems use light barriers to monitor the density, symmetry and cone angle of the spray leaving a nozzle, inline.
