Contamination inspection on baby diapers and feminine pads
Each product on the belt is imaged line by line with a line-scan camera under bar lights. Dark spots and particles on the white nonwoven are segmented; a product whose spot count or area exceeds the limit is blown off the line.
Spot count, largest region area and the decision go to the operator display. The NG product is tracked on the belt; air nozzles transfer it into the reject bin.

Need
The embossed absorbent core, fibre texture and folded edges cast shadows on the white surface. Small dark particles must be distinguished from this natural texture and the edges.
Solution approach
Overhead line scanning and angled bar lights on both sides create consistent contrast on the moving surface. Dark connected regions are segmented within the product boundary; their positions, count and areas are calculated and tracked to the rejection point.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
Products enter the scan station at constant speed and even pitch.
- 02
Scan
The line-scan camera images the moving surface line by line.
- 03
Analysis
Dark regions on the white background are segmented; count and area are measured.
- 04
Decide
Spot count and largest spot area are compared with the limits.
- 05
Reject
A clean product stays on the line; a contaminated one is blown into the bin.
