Adhesive (glue) inspection on baby diapers and feminine pads
Glue beads applied to the web fluoresce under UV lighting. The camera measures presence, width and continuity of each bead; an interrupted or missing bead is flagged and its position is tracked along the line.
Gap length, bead count and the NG decision appear on the display. The flagged section is tracked on the web; the stack light indicates the inspection result.

Need
White adhesive has low contrast on white nonwoven under visible light. Fibre texture and the spiral bead make a real interruption difficult to distinguish from natural gaps in the adhesive pattern.
Solution approach
Adhesive with fluorescence response verified on a sample is imaged with an overhead camera and angled UV bar lights. Each bead is analysed in a separate window; a transverse intensity profile measures bead width and longitudinal gap length.
Process steps
- 01
Application
Nozzles lay two straight beads and one spiral band of glue on the moving web.
- 02
UV image
UV bar lights make the glue fluoresce; the camera images the lit area.
- 03
Bead analysis
Each bead is located in its own window; width and continuity are measured.
- 04
Decide
Bead count and gap length are compared with the limits.
