Blister inspection
As the blister card passes the photo-sensor it is imaged from above under a dome light. Every pocket is evaluated as its own region: tablet presence, area and shape are compared with the template. A card with a missing or broken tablet is removed from the line.
Intact and faulty pocket counts per card are written to the line PLC; a faulty card is pushed into the reject bin, and the result is shown on the stack light and on the pocket map of the operator display.

Need
Blister foil is glossy and curved; under directional light glare hides a tablet or creates false edges. Tablets can shift in the pocket, a broken fragment stays inside and its area comes close to an intact tablet; colour and shape change often from product to product.
Solution approach
The dome light illuminates the foil diffusely from every direction, glare disappears and every pocket shows with equal contrast. The camera looks straight down from the pole of the dome; the image is aligned with the pocket layout in the template and each pocket is evaluated as its own region: presence first, then area and roundness. Pocket results are combined into the card verdict.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
Blister cards approach the station at constant speed; the photo-sensor sees the card and arms the camera.
- 02
Acquire
The dome light strobes; a top view is captured without foil glare.
- 03
Pocket check
Tablet presence, area and shape are checked pocket by pocket.
- 04
Decide
Pocket results are combined into a verdict for the card.
