High-speed surface inspection of rubber stoppers and plunger seals

Solution concept

Rubber stoppers and plunger seals travel in single file on a glass rotary table. Top, bottom and side images are inspected for surface, edge and size; a product with flash is rejected by an air jet.

Information delivered

Surface and contour results are matched to the table position and sent to the PLC; the stopper with flash is sent to the reject bin by an air jet and its image is displayed.

Need

Small foreign particles have low contrast on dark rubber. The carrier can hide the bottom surface, while thin flash becomes clear only in a silhouette taken from the right direction.

Solution approach

The glass table gives the bottom camera an unobstructed view. Diffuse light reveals surface regions to the top and bottom cameras; the side camera captures an edge silhouette against a backlight. Contour deviations, surface spots and dimensions are compared by rules.

  2. 02

    Multi-view capture

Top, bottom and side surfaces are imaged.

  3. 03

    Contour and surface

Flash and surface spots are searched for.
