Software-assisted, safe recycling of legacy ammunition
Inert bodies pass a laser profile sensor on a line behind a barrier; length, diameter and surface condition are derived from the 3D data. Software routes each item to its process lane or to quarantine without manual handling.
Illustrative type and condition results appear on the console; the inert sample is routed to the selected lane. The damaged sample is shown on a separate lane and the stack light indicates NG.

Need
Inert bodies vary in length and diameter; curved-surface reflections and local damage complicate silhouette comparison. Scanning and lane routing must remain associated with the same item.
Solution approach
The entry photo-sensor indicates passage; the gantry laser profiler accumulates transverse sections. A blue point cloud and dimension lines describe the body, damage is marked in red, and the display shows illustrative type and lane codes.
Process steps
- 01
3D scan
The body passes under the laser line and its surface is scanned as a point cloud.
- 02
Identify
Length and diameter are measured, a type code is assigned and surface condition is checked against limits.
- 03
Routing
Software selects the lane; the diverter and pusher separate the item remotely.
