Sorting nuts and washers on a glass-dial machine
A bowl feeder supplies nuts and washers at intervals to a glass dial. Top, bottom and side images check diameter, thickness, thread presence and shape; air nozzles separate parts into accepted or rejected crates according to the decision.
Part measurements and decision are matched to dial position and sent to the PLC. Two nozzles separate parts into accepted and rejected crates; an unseparated part goes to the return chute.

Need
Small parts can overlap during feeding; a single top view does not show thickness or the bottom face. Reflections on glass can reduce the contrast of the bore and edges.
Solution approach
The glass dial carries parts in a single row. A top camera with ring lighting checks shape and thread contours, a camera below the glass checks the backlit bore silhouette, and a telecentric side camera checks thickness; tracked part positions trigger the corresponding air nozzle.
Process steps
- 01
Single-row feed
The bowl feeder transfers spaced parts to the glass dial.
- 02
Top image
External shape is checked under ring lighting.
- 03
Bottom and side images
Bore silhouette and thickness are measured from separate viewpoints.
- 04
Decision record
Measurements are matched to the part position on the dial.
- 05
Air sorting
The corresponding nozzle blows the part into the accepted or rejected crate.
