End-seal and date-code inspection on tubes
The end-seal of an upright tube is imaged under oblique lighting. Seal edges are measured and the date and lot code are read; a tube with an open seal is removed by a pusher.
The seal measurement and decoded text are stored in the product record. A tube with an open seal or unreadable code is reported to the pusher through the PLC; it is removed into the reject bin.

Need
The folded tube tail creates small wrinkles and glare. Product contamination can hide the seal edge; print code and seal continuity are checked separately within the same narrow region.
Solution approach
The side camera faces the flattened tube tail. An oblique bar light reveals seal relief through shadows; edge spacing and continuity are measured. OCR is applied to the date and lot region, and the code is compared with the expected format.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
The tube is carried with its tail facing the camera.
- 02
Trigger
The nest sensor determines the capture time.
- 03
Seal
Seal edges are extracted under oblique light.
- 04
Code
Date and lot are read by OCR.
- 05
Decide
The tube with an open seal is rejected by the pusher.
