Pan fill and colour verification in make-up palettes
An open make-up palette is imaged from above under diffuse light. The pan matrix is aligned with the reference; fill, pressed-powder integrity and colour are checked in every pan, and a non-conforming palette is removed.
Fill and colour difference for each pan are added to the palette record. A palette with an empty pan or wrong shade is diverted to the side lane by the PLC; the pan matrix is displayed on screen.

Need
Pearlescent powders change shade with viewing angle; the floor of an empty pan can shine like a filled one. Colours cannot be compared without normalising palette position and illumination.
Solution approach
An overhead colour camera and diffuse dome reduce glare differences. The pan matrix is aligned from the palette edge; filled area, pressed-powder edge and reference colour difference are calculated separately. An empty pan and wrong shade are flagged on the same palette.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
The open palette enters the imaging station.
- 02
Trigger
The photo-sensor triggers the colour camera.
- 03
Align
The pan matrix is aligned to the palette edge.
- 04
Fill and colour
Fill and shade are compared in every pan.
- 05
Divert
The palette with an empty pan and wrong shade is diverted to the side lane.
