Crimp height and strand spread check at terminal crimps
A holder brings the crimped cable end to the side and overhead cameras for inspection. The side silhouette checks crimp height while the overhead image checks strand spread and insulation position; a non-conforming end is cut off and separated.
Crimp measurements and strand defects go to the machine PLC; a non-conforming end is cut off into the rejection bin and both images are added to the inspection record.

Need
The metal terminal reflects light and fine protruding strands can hide behind its body in a single view. Insulation entering the crimp affects overhead and side appearances differently.
Solution approach
A side camera measures terminal height from a silhouette against an opposing backlight. An overhead camera separates strands and the insulation boundary under ring lighting. Both views are matched to a common terminal reference to assess height, strand spread and position.
Process steps
- 01
Positioning
The holder brings the cable end to the measurement position.
- 02
Side silhouette
Terminal height is measured against the backlight.
- 03
Overhead image
Ring lighting reveals strands and the insulation boundary.
- 04
Combined decision
Measurements from both views are combined in a common reference.
- 05
End separation
The non-conforming end is cut off into the rejection bin.
