Robot placement of cable harnesses into oriented assembly clips

Solution concept

Link cable endpoint, target clip and final visible placement to the record. An occluded endpoint or changed shape needs re-imaging and validation; vision alone does not prove retention force in every clip. Line, robot and PLC phases are animated as an illustrative simulation.

Need

A flexible cable harness can change endpoint direction and body shape during presentation. Treating it as a rigid part can target the wrong clip or an occluded endpoint; preserve visible endpoint, grip region and target-clip context.

Solution approach

Associate the visible cable endpoint and grip region with clip references. Grip and lift under sequence control, carry to the oriented assembly area and lower into the clip context. Check endpoint direction and visible placement after release; flexible-body behaviour is represented as a solution concept.

Process steps

  1. 01

    Line and item image

Image the visible cable endpoint, grip region and destination clips.

  2. 02

    Target and line permission

Associate endpoint orientation with clip context and evaluate current flexible shape.

  3. 03

    Grip and lift

Grip the harness under sequence control and lift from its presentation fixture.

  4. 04

    Transfer across the line

Carry into the oriented assembly area while preserving endpoint and clip identities.

  5. 05

    Receipt and final check

Lower and release the harness; check visible endpoint orientation and clip placement.
