Smart DataMatrix / barcode reading and sorting tunnels
The parcel passes through the reading tunnel without stopping the belt; readers above and at the sides find the label on whichever face it is and decode it. The code is mapped to a destination lane and a diverter flap sends the parcel there. A parcel that cannot be read continues to the manual handling lane.
Reader, code and destination appear on the display; decoded parcels divert onto the relevant branch belt, while a no-decode parcel continues straight towards manual handling.

Need
Parcel size and label face vary; a torn or dirty label can fail at several readers. A decision must stay associated with the correct parcel so its diverter opens at the right time.
Solution approach
A photo-sensor indicates passage and top and opposing side readers scan faces from different angles. Decoded data maps to a lane, while no-decode is retained as a separate result. The operator screen shows the label, ROI and route; the flap moves in time with parcel passage.
Process steps
- 01
Tunnel entry
The photo-sensor sees the parcel and the readers are synchronised to its passage.
- 02
Reading
Top and side readers scan the faces of the passing parcel and decode the code.
- 03
Assign lane
The decoded data is matched to the shipping record and the destination lane is set.
- 04
Divert
The diverter flap opens as the parcel arrives and steers it into its lane.
