Concentricity measurement of inner and outer edges on pressed discs
The outer edge and inner bore of a pressed disc are located in one overhead image. Two circles are fitted from separate caliper samples; centre separation is shown with a measurement arrow and an eccentric bore is held by the PLC.
Inner and outer diameters, centre coordinates and centre displacement are recorded with the part result. The PLC holds a disc outside the limit; the scene does not certify a specific geometric-tolerance standard.

Need
Burrs or reflections on a bright disc edge can produce an incorrect circle centre. Inner and outer boundaries must be sampled separately; image perspective and calibration error must be separated from the measurement.
Solution approach
Separate caliper regions sample inner and outer boundaries in a telecentric overhead view. Outlier edges are evaluated before geometric fitting; both circle centres are calculated in a calibrated plane. Centre displacement is checked against the drawing acceptance definition.
Process steps
- 01
Locate
The disc seats in the rotary nest on the measurement plane.
- 02
Reference and trigger
The overhead view and edge image are triggered.
- 03
Sample
Circular samples are acquired from inner and outer boundaries.
- 04
Geometric analysis
Two circles are fitted and centre separation is measured.
- 05
Tolerance and PLC
The illustrative centre limit is linked to the PLC decision.
