Dashboard analysis and inspection system
The dashboard on its carrier is imaged by three cameras in one shot. Vents, instrument cluster, screen and climate panel are checked for presence and type; glovebox door alignment is measured against the reference.
The number of points passed and the door angle are shown on the operator display and the checklist is written to the part record. A misaligned door is marked in its own region and the stack light signals NG; the dashboard moves on down the line flagged for rework.

Need
A dashboard is wide and deep; one camera cannot see the whole face in enough detail. Vents, cluster and panels are mostly dark on a dark body, so contrast is low. When door alignment is measured, the position and tilt of the dashboard on its carrier can be mistaken for a real deviation.
Solution approach
Three gantry cameras look square onto the tilted face and split it into three overlapping regions; bar lights between them strobe together to bring out edges. A photo-sensor starts acquisition once the carrier stops. Each component is compared with its reference view in its own region; the door edge angle is measured against a reference edge on the body, so carrier position has no effect.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
The dashboard arrives on its carrier and is positioned in the station.
- 02
Acquire
Three cameras are triggered together; the lights strobe and the whole face is captured.
- 03
Check
Each component region is checked in turn: present, correct type, aligned?
- 04
Decide
The checklist is completed and the result is written to the part record.
