Liner, short-shot and tamper-band inspection of plastic closures
Oriented closures are imaged from above and from the side with their openings facing up. Liner position, mould filling and tamper-band bridges are checked; a non-conforming closure is removed by an air nozzle.
Liner offset and bridge integrity go to the PLC record. An unsuitable closure is diverted into the reject bin by an air nozzle; top and side images are shown on the operator display.

Need
The internal liner can sit in the shadow of the closure wall. Thin tamper-band bridges are hidden from above; an offset liner and short-shot need to be distinguished from different views.
Solution approach
A photo-sensor triggers the top camera under ring lighting; the liner edge is measured relative to the closure centre. The side camera captures the wall and band silhouette against a backlight; incomplete filling and bridge breaks are compared with the nominal contour.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
Closures advance in one row with openings up.
- 02
Trigger
The photo-sensor registers the closure in the imaging field.
- 03
Acquire
Top ring-lit and side backlit images are captured.
- 04
Inspect
The liner edge and band bridges are compared.
- 05
Reject
The closure with an offset liner is removed by the air nozzle.
