Cross-section measurement in PVC profile extrusion
Laser sensors around the moving window profile scan the same cross-section plane. The merged outer contour is compared with the nominal section; a warped section raises a line warning.
Section deviation and angle are sent to the PLC and operator display. An out-of-limit section raises a line warning; a position-based record supports subsequent cutting and examination.

Need
Profile protrusions obscure the view of a single sensor. Cooling and pulling can bend the outer walls; sections captured from different directions need to be merged in the same plane.
Solution approach
Four frame-mounted laser profilers share a plane normal to the section. Visible outer-wall points are transformed into calibrated coordinates; width, angle and warp are compared with the nominal outer contour. Internal channels are shown in the model but are not treated as measured by the external sensors.
Process steps
- 01
Pull
The profile moves from the calibrator towards the puller.
- 02
Scan
Lasers operate in the same section plane.
- 03
Merge
Outer-wall points are transformed into shared coordinates.
- 04
Compare
The contour is compared with the nominal section.
- 05
Alert
The warped section is flagged in the PLC and display.
