Fill and filter-end inspection of stick products
Stick products are carried in a grooved drum past the camera. Ring illumination supports end-fill inspection, while a side view evaluates filter segments and the wrap edge; an underfilled stick is separated by an air jet.
End-fill and segment decisions are linked to the drum pocket. An air nozzle separates the defective stick; end and side images are retained together in the operator record.

Need
Fill texture and shadows can be confused on a small end face. Drum motion can blur images; segment boundaries and paper gaps require a separate view.
Solution approach
A high-speed camera triggered by drum position views the end face with ring illumination. Texture is compared within the fill area; an overhead side-view camera tracks filter-segment order and the wrap edge. The reject nozzle is timed to the corresponding drum pocket.
Process steps
- 01
Drum
The pocket carries the stick into camera alignment.
- 02
Trigger
Drum position triggers acquisition.
- 03
End and side
The fill end and segments are imaged.
- 04
Texture check
Fill area and wrap edge are compared.
- 05
Air reject
The underfilled stick is separated.
