Wood-grain classification for veneer-lot matching
Veneer panels can be similar in colour yet belong to straight, figured or mixed grain families. Colour difference alone does not solve appearance-lot matching.
Add appearance class and the top-two score gap to the panel record; a panel matching the target lot advances and an uncertain one awaits operator assessment.

Solution approach
The controlled image ROI is classified; the raw image and C1/C2/C3 scores appear separately. The order class and confidence threshold are evaluated together. Register grain direction on the roller table and match texture ROI scores to the lot recipe. Hold a hybrid grain example on low confidence.
Process steps
- 01
Recipe
Load the class expected by the order.
- 02
Raw image
Trigger the specimen under fixed lighting and link the image to its ROI.
- 03
Class scores
Reveal the three illustrative class scores as comparative bars.
- 04
Confidence gate
A low score becomes UNKNOWN; a confident wrong class is also not accepted.
- 05
Route
Release the accepted example and transfer the others to the review nest.
