PCB component inspection and analysis
The board is imaged from above under a ring light. Presence, position, angle and polarity mark of every component are compared with a reference template; a missing or shifted part is marked on the board map.
The verified component count and position and angle deviations are recorded on the board map; findings go to the operator display and the overall board decision goes to the signal tower.

Need
Different component heights create shadows; reflections from metal leads and board movement on the rails make it harder to distinguish a missing part from a position error.
Solution approach
The board rests against the stopper and a photo-sensor starts acquisition. In the top-camera image under ring lighting, component regions are matched to templates in sequence; exposed pads support presence checks and body edges support position and angle measurement.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
The board enters on the edge rails and rests against the stopper.
- 02
Acquire
The board interrupts the photo-sensor beam; after it stops, the ring light strobes and the top camera captures the image.
- 03
Compare
Each component is matched to the template in turn: presence, position, angle, polarity.
- 04
Decide
The findings are compared with the expected component list.
