Braid pitch and broken-wire check on hoses
As the hose leaves the braiding machine and travels to the haul-off unit, surrounding cameras image the braid pattern. Repeat spacing, angle and coverage are inspected; a broken wire or uncovered region sends a stop signal to machine control.
Pitch, angle and defect position are transferred to the operator display. A stop signal and marked pattern are sent to machine control for a broken wire or open braid.

Need
A single camera cannot see the rear side of a cylindrical hose. Wire reflections and hose sway can create apparent interruptions in the regular braid pattern.
Solution approach
Cameras around the hose acquire equally spaced angular views under ring lighting. Circumferential images are unwrapped into a pattern; repeat spacing and wire direction are measured, while discontinuities and uncovered regions are marked.
Process steps
- 01
Braid outlet
The hose is pulled from the bobbin ring.
- 02
Circumferential image
Three cameras view different sides of the hose.
- 03
Unwrapped pattern
The images are combined into a common braid pattern.
- 04
Pitch and wire
Repeat spacing and wire continuity are measured.
- 05
Machine signal
Haul-off stops for a broken wire or open braid.
