Joint colour and geometry sorting of mixed closures
Mixed closures are imaged on a rotary table. Colour alone does not determine the result; diameter, top shape and closure type are evaluated together. A pusher and servo transfer select the correct magazine output.
Closure type, colour group and geometry match are sent to the PLC output address. Incompatible examples are kept separate; the product recipe defines which combination each output accepts.

Need
Different closures can share a colour, while identical geometries can have different colours. Glare alters colour; the colour decision must be cross-checked against shape and the product recipe.
Solution approach
An indexing table holds closures under consistent light and view. The overhead camera combines contour, circularity and top shape with colour features. Accepted product types receive an output recipe; incompatible combinations are separated by servo transfer.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
The table rotates the closure into the overhead camera position.
- 02
Trigger and acquire
Colour and top shape are acquired under diffuse light.
- 03
Analyse
Colour group is combined with contour and shape class.
- 04
Class and position
The product recipe selects the target output address.
- 05
Controlled sorting
The pusher moves the closure onto a servo carrier and the axis selects the output.
