Foreign-particle analysis in bottled liquid
The filled bottle is spun fast and stopped abruptly; while the liquid keeps rotating, a sequence of frames is taken against a backlight. Shadows that move between frames are tracked: rising bubbles are discarded, drifting particles are counted as foreign matter.
Tracked particle count is written to the bottle record. A bottle containing foreign material passes to the reject lane through the diverter; bubble and particle paths are shown separately on the display.

Need
Glass, liquid and bubbles are imaged together; a single frame cannot distinguish a foreign particle from a bubble. Liquid rotation and refraction alter the tracks after the bottle stops.
Solution approach
A head spins and stops the bottle; a long-lens camera captures successive frames against a backlight. Motion tracks are extracted from frame differences: rising bubbles are excluded, while dark particles that drift with the liquid and settle are flagged.
Process steps
- 01
Infeed
The bottle arrives in its carrier and the spin head comes down on the cap.
- 02
Spin
The bottle is spun fast, setting the liquid and everything in it in motion.
- 03
Acquire
The bottle stops, the liquid keeps turning; frames are taken against the backlight.
- 04
Track
Motion between frames is tracked; bubbles and particles are told apart by their paths.
- 05
Decide
If a drifting particle is found, the bottle is diverted to the reject lane.
