Engine assembly quality inspection and test
The engine block is imaged from above and from the side while it rests in the assembly station. An AI model checks the presence and type of components such as studs, plugs and the filter region by region; a block with a missing part is routed to the rework line.
Region results are sent with the block code to the operator display and line control. A pallet with a missing component is routed to the rework branch; a complete block continues on the main line.

Need
The bright machined surfaces and the dark plug seats of a cast block give very different brightness in the same image. Studs can obscure each other, and a top view alone cannot show the plugs and filter on the side face.
Solution approach
Two overhead cameras view the stud rows under bar lights; a side camera images the plug and filter regions with ring illumination. Acquisitions are triggered separately, and an AI model combines presence and type results for each region into one checklist.
Process steps
- 01
Positioning
The engine block arrives on its pallet and stops under the cameras.
- 02
Acquire
The top lights and the side ring light strobe in turn; three cameras capture images.
- 03
Region check
The AI model evaluates each region: is the part present and of the right type?
- 04
Decide
The checklist is completed and the result is recorded against the block number.
