Bend angle and spring-back measurement on sheet metal
Sheet metal bends in the press brake V-die while a laser profiler observes both legs. The loaded angle is compared with the angle after unloading, and the spring-back correction is shown at the PLC interface.
Illustrative angle and spring-back difference appear on the display; the correction for the next stroke is passed to the PLC interface. The stack light shows NG for an out-of-tolerance condition.

Need
Material and thickness variations cause the angle to reopen after unloading. The restricted view around the die and punch makes observing both legs in the same section difficult.
Solution approach
A laser profiler beside the die projects a line onto both legs. The two observed line segments and their angle are shown on screen; loaded and unloaded sections are compared to derive an illustrative spring-back value.
Process steps
- 01
Position
The sheet is positioned on the V-die.
- 02
Bend
The punch descends while the laser observes both legs.
- 03
Unload
The punch rises and sheet reopening is observed.
- 04
Correct
The angle difference and correction record for the next stroke are displayed.
