Missing roller and ball check in bearing cages
The bearing pallet stops beneath the overhead camera; diffuse ring light illuminates the cage pockets. If an empty pocket is found in the circular occupancy map, the pallet turns toward the reject route.
Occupied and empty pocket counts are recorded with the circular map; the pallet carrying a bearing with an empty pocket turns toward the reject route and the NG decision appears on the stack light.

Need
Shiny rollers and cage bridges produce similar reflections. Counting bright regions without locating the circular pockets can make an empty pocket appear occupied.
Solution approach
The overhead camera sees the cage in its circular plane; diffuse ring lighting reduces illumination differences between pockets. The cage centre is located, each pocket is evaluated in its own ROI and the occupied count is compared with the expected pocket count.
Process steps
- 01
Pallet
The pallet brings the bearing beneath the camera.
- 02
Acquire
The ring light strobes and an overhead image is acquired.
- 03
Pockets
The cage centre and pocket regions are located.
- 04
Count
Occupancy of every pocket is counted.
- 05
Decide
If a roller is missing, the pallet turns toward the reject route.
