Chassis number and type-label verification
The body arrives at the station on the assembly line. Under low-angle light a camera reads the chassis number stamped into the body; the string is compared with the production order and with the code on the type label. On a mismatch the line raises an alert.
The number read, the character confidence and the image are archived against the production order. If the number or the label does not match, a warning goes to the line PLC and the body does not proceed to the next station until it is corrected.

Need
Stamped characters have the same colour as the painted sheet; only the shadow of the relief gives contrast. Stamping depth varies, paint fills the recesses and some characters (0–D, 8–B, 1–7) look alike.
Solution approach
A camera and a low-angle bar light approach the number area on a short axis; the grazing light shades the edges of the relief and makes the characters visible. The characters are read by OCR and compared one by one with the number in the production order. The type label is read by a separate code reader.
Process steps
- 01
Index
The body arrives at the station and stops.
- 02
Approach
The axis moves the camera and light to the number area.
- 03
Acquire
The relief is imaged under low-angle light; the label code is read.
- 04
Read
The characters are read by OCR and compared with the production order.
- 05
Decide
The match of number and label is checked.
